The idea behind
ONE Business Bay - the communicating office building.
The office building ONE Business Bay in the heart of Dubai is quite unique. The focal point of the project is the experience of wholeness that the user meets with as a result of the sophisticated interaction between various intelligent technologies.
Headfitteds task was to think through and demonstrate concrete implementable solutions based on a vision to provide experiences for the user. It resulted in the integration of an innovative communication system where the user can be serviced in a very individual way, so that the user experiences being at the centre.
The Purpose
Development of an overall vision.
The challenge of this project was that there was no proper vision for the office building; a number of different communication systems were purchased and the construction was started before it was considered how the office building was to stand out from the many other large office buildings near by. Headfitted joined the project as an idea generator and made a plan for how a communication system with the visitor in focus could be developed.
ONE Business Bay had to differentiate itself as a unique office building, where companies can be confident that their customers get an experience of being at the centre because of the consistent and intelligent communication system. Thus, ONE Business Bay is developed into an office building where it is particularly attractive for companies to rent premises.
The Process
Innovative solutions achieved through research and different solutions.
In the interdisciplinary and intercultural project teamwork we had the role as an idea generator. We had to find new ways of doing things. We produced a draft proposal for the design and integration of the technology in the building.
Among other things, the proposal gave suggestions for how an Internet portal should be developed, and from where the technology could be controlled. Overall, our work grew to consist of research, different solutions on integration of flat screens into the building, communication with elevator systems, backup systems, security solutions and an Internet portal.
Part of the challenge consisted of the fact that different systems were already purchased for the building. Besides, the layout had been designed and the construction was already underway. However, there was no support for the vision to provide experiences for the user. Thus, we had a challenging and exciting work ahead of us with the development of intelligent technology in ONE Business Bay - a work which resulted in completely new and innovative solutions.
The Result
Experience of wholeness and individual service.
Interactive design solutions were implemented in the hall of the building to give an overview of the activities in the building. Here, the user can be updated with accurate information and news that might be relevant. Other points of interaction also contributed to make the user feel being in the centre. As in the hall, points of interaction were placed in the elevator and on each floor.
These technologies are now helping to provide users with the experiences that the vision promises. The ONE Business Bay vision aims to give each company and their customers a holistic experience where they feel that they are in the centre, regardless of where they are in the building. That which would normally be a major organisational task becomes an effortless service because everything is built around the idea of delivering the best and most personalised service.
